A Discourse Approach in Reading : Narrative

Narrative
On 18 January 2016
Today we started to learn about "Narrative" that the purpose is to entertain and to nourish and extend the reader's imagination.
The reader is introduced to the main character(s), minor characters and atmosphere. Then my teacher explained about
text organization
   -orientation
   -complication
   -resolution
language features
   -who, where
-Variety of verb/processes : linking, mental, and Action/material
-linking words to do with time
   -specific participants

and then she assigned us to do the circle of secrets by Tim Winton

after that, we started to read " Secrets" by Tim Winton part one.
We summarized part one that kylie feels left out from her mother and Philip's activities. She becomes interested in the chickens in the yard. Somehow her secret helps her to feel less lonely. She finds the second egg and then finds out where other are being laid by an unhealthy-looking hen. The secret became bigger every day when she is left alone, she often shares the secret with her hen. She always thinks about her father when she looked at photographs.
We didn't read part two because times up, so my teacher assigns us to read part two.
